My Top 5 Favorite Movies of All Time

So I get asked this question a lot and I've honestly tried to sum up that my most favorite movies can vary depending on my mood but I guess shockingly, despite having a die hard love for the Twilight Saga and the Lord of the Rings franchise, my go too for whenever I'm feeling down in the dumps, would have to 100% be the Underworld franchise. I guess when you know me it's not very surprising. I first came across the first movie Underworld shortly after I turned 16. It became the go to movie for me to cope with the sudden death of my grandmother/mother. It was my go to movie for dealing with my failing relationship which was filled with domestic violence, abuse, and sexual assault. I was able to dive into the movie and get lost.

"There's an order in which to watch these movies. Failing to do so, means you won't understand the story the directors are attempting to tell you." - Akiba.

To better understand Underworld, you have to understand that the producers, writers and directors did the same thing that the producers of Star Wars did; they produced movies that went out of order and then left it up to the fans to figure out the order in which to watch the franchise in order for the story to make sense.

Underworld; Rise of the lycans, tells you a bit more about Lucian and Sonja. It gives you some insight into why the war started, how it started and who was at the root cause of it.

Underworld - often called Underworld 2003 as it this was the year it was released, is next in line. It tells you the story of Michael Corvin and the death dealer Selene and the blooming love affair that, by rights, was considered largely taboo but later supported by Lucian prior to his death.

Underworld Evolution revels that Alexander Corvinus, the first immortal, is very much alive and his son, Marcus, now a hybrid himself, is hell bent on finding his twin brother, William, a werewolf with an insatiable thirst for blood.

Underworld Awakening revels that Michael is missing and Selene and her hybrid daughter, Eve, have awoken to a world largely at war with the immortal clans. Humans are now the enemy or so it seems. Also what the fuck is up with Clifford the giant ass Lycan????

Underworld Blood Wars revels David, Amelia's son, being the rightful heir to the entire coven and vampire clans now that Viktor, Amelia and Marcus are dead. He appoints Selene as elder who, for the most part, leaves the covens to find her daughter Eve. We're pretty much left with a cliff hanger which has lasted 7yrs!

By and large, Underworld played a huge role in my teenage years. I often would watch the first film so much, that I actually needed to replace the DVD six times before I found the extended director's cut and decided not to 'binge watch' my poor movie over and over again.

Do I recommend watching Underworld? 100% I find that the writing does have it's flaws, the last two films fell short and felt to many fans, as rushed, but, it's with these flaws that add character. Unlike the Twilight Saga, which you could visually tell was rushed, the Underworld Franchise makes this 'rushed feeling' feel more subtle, less noticeable and this is why it's been an endearing and enduring film franchise for as long as it has been. Newer generations of movie goers have discovered it, and have also fallen in love with the films. With many even applauding the cast for a job well done on such an overly difficult film to produce considering, largely, CGI wasn't used but actual actors and stunt doubles were.

If you get the chance, go take a gander to a world filled with myths, lore, legends, and a tale of love and betrayal, as old as the very city in which the films were filmed (Budapest largely).
